For Addie’s senior portraits, we did something we’d done at her brother’s senior session two years ago. We made sibling portraits at the end.
We also laughed until our stomachs hurt, and you can read about why and see the behind the scenes on the episode page on our website. Their dad, Alex, was on hand to help and witnessed the shenanigans for the first session, and their mom, Charlie, at the second.
I sat down for PART ONE with Alex, Charlie parenting, the difference between their two awesome kids, and what these bittersweet family milestones mean to them. ❤️
For PART TWO, I sat down with Addie herself to have a lighthearted conversation about senior year, sibling differences, piggyback rides, creativity, her advice for enjoying high school, and even a dose or two of ASMR. Hope it makes you smile. 😀

The Most Fun at the Least Convenient Time of Day
Some of us are morning people, some are not. I am not. Did I mention that the call time was 5:30 am? What was I thinking?

Yet, I was looking forward to this one so much. The previous senior / family session with her brother was a blast. Also, I’ve known Addie & Gavin’s parents since before they WERE parents. It’s a good time anytime I get to hang out with the Carpenter Benhams.

Leading up to her session, Addie had been sending me her trademark hilarious videos. Subjects ranged from footwear and wardrobe choices to potential props. I looked forward to each creative comedic endeavor.
(Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes, I watched them more than once when I should have been doing actual work.🤫)

Things That Were Attempted or Discussed During the Session:
The eyebrow trick, Childish Gambino, rain-deprived sunflowers, sibling piggyback strategies, football, running shoes, trying not to get run over by a car, bees, ladybugs, 🐞 slow-mo videos, sun flare, photographic savvy, mountain biking, singing, kicking cowboy boots, southern accents – to name a few.
Job Allocation for the Team:
Addie: executing professional level modeling, being Addie, ie, alternating between comedic heroine and glamour girl, accommodating ridiculous requests from the Director of Shenanigans (AKA me)
Gavin: reflector manager, brotherly teasing, piggyback balancing, see ridiculous requests above.
Charlie: prop & wardrobe management, and (MOST importantly) traffic safety. As in, preventing our intrepid photographer from being run over by passing vehicles.
Kristen: creating authentic photographic documentation as Director of Shenanigans

As we were making portraits, the sun rose, bathing the scene in a warm glow. It was glorious. Another fantastic collaboration with this crew.
